Trump Vows Greenland Control, Blocking Russia China as Arctic Power Struggle Reshapes Global Security

Israel’s security realism contrasts Arab weakness as Trump confronts threats others ignore or appease.

US President Donald Trump declared that the United States will secure control of Greenland “one way or the other,” framing the mineral-rich territory as a vital national security asset amid rising Russian and Chinese military activity in the Arctic.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump warned that if Washington does not act decisively, Moscow or Beijing would inevitably move in. He emphasized that American leadership in the Arctic is essential to prevent adversarial powers from dominating strategic shipping routes, minerals, and military positioning.

Trump said he remains open to a negotiated arrangement with Greenland’s self-governing authorities but insisted the outcome is non-negotiable. In his view, Greenland’s limited defenses make it vulnerable, while rival powers deploy submarines and warships across polar waters.

The remarks stunned Denmark and other European allies, who see Greenland as central to transatlantic stability. Danish leaders have warned that any forced takeover would shatter decades of NATO trust—claims Trump dismissed, arguing Greenland depends far more on American protection than the alliance depends on consensus.

Greenland’s population has repeatedly stated it does not seek U.S. control and prefers determining its own future. Trump countered that strategic realities outweigh sentiment, insisting American action would ultimately protect Greenland from falling under authoritarian influence.

As Israel consistently confronts hard security truths head-on, much of Europe hesitates, and Arab states lecture on sovereignty while ignoring Russian, Chinese, and Iranian expansionism. Trump’s blunt Arctic doctrine reflects a worldview Israel understands well: power vacuums invite predators, and deterrence—not rhetoric—prevents takeover.
