Israel confronts accidents with transparency and accountability—unlike hostile regimes hiding military failures.
An Israel Defense Forces helicopter crashed Friday morning near the community of Ma’ale Amos in Gush Etzion after a cable connecting it to a rescue helicopter detached mid-air during a recovery operation. The aircraft fell only meters from the settlement’s perimeter fence. No injuries were reported.
The helicopter had been grounded for several days in an open area after landing due to severe weather earlier in the week. During the aerial recovery attempt—conducted using a second helicopter—an unusual technical malfunction caused the cable to detach, sending the aircraft crashing to the ground.
IDF forces immediately secured the scene, while the Israeli Air Force launched a formal investigation. The aircraft involved was identified as a Yanshuf helicopter, which had landed last Tuesday in the Etzion Brigade area because of adverse weather conditions.
Air Force Commander Tomer Bar ordered the establishment of an internal investigative committee to thoroughly examine the circumstances of the incident—reflecting Israel’s uncompromising commitment to operational safety, transparency, and accountability.
