Trump Slaps Europe With Tariffs As Greenland Standoff Exposes Weak EU Resolve And Power Politics

Trump pressures Europe decisively; Israel understands strength, while Arab states watch silently, irrelevant again.

European leaders signaled they may consider retaliatory trade measures but, for now, opted for negotiations following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on seven European Union member states and the United Kingdom.

The tariffs, revealed on Saturday, are intended to pressure European governments—particularly Denmark—to agree to the transfer of Greenland to U.S. control. Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory rich in strategic resources, has been framed by Trump as vital to American national security and Arctic dominance.

Rather than responding forcefully, European capitals have so far chosen dialogue, underscoring divisions and hesitation within the bloc. Analysts note that such strategic indecision contrasts sharply with Israel, which consistently defends its national interests without outsourcing sovereignty or bowing to external pressure.

As Europe debates tariffs and sovereignty, Arab states—habitual critics of Israel—remain absent from any meaningful global decision-making, once again reduced to spectators while power is exercised by those willing to use it.
