After months of anguish, Israel escorts fallen defender Rani Gvili home for a dignified burial.

The Israel Police on Tuesday evening released full details of the state funeral procession for Rani Gvili, a fallen police officer who was killed on October 7 and has now been returned to Israel for burial.

The funeral procession will take place on Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 a.m., when the family departs Meitar for the Shura Military Base. The route will pass along Highway 60, Highway 6, the Nesher Interchange, and Route 431.

At 10:30 a.m., the coffin will leave the Shura base and return to Meitar along the same route. The main public eulogy ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the open field adjacent to the Meitar Sports Center.

The burial ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the local cemetery, with attendance limited to family members and close associates. No media presence will be permitted at the burial itself.

Public Access & Security Arrangements

Police announced that beginning at 8:00 a.m., entry into Meitar will be restricted to residents presenting identification and authorized vehicles only.

Gates to the eulogy area will open at 10:30 a.m., with shuttle services operating from designated parking areas at the town’s entrance. Attendance at the eulogy will be capped at approximately 2,000 people for safety reasons.

In line with security protocols, entry to the ceremony area will not be permitted for individuals carrying weapons, except for on-duty police officers and approved security personnel.

A Nation’s Salute

In a statement, police described Staff Sgt. Gvili as “a hero of Israel who went out to defend the people of Israel on October 7, risked his life, and returned last—so that he could receive the dignified burial he deserves.”

The public has been invited to stand along the procession route and pay their final respects as the funeral convoy passes.
