Zamir Bypasses Political Gridlock, Sends Trusted Air Force General to Secure Israel–Washington Defense Coordination

Israel decisively strengthens US defense ties as hostile regional actors and Palestinian terror infrastructures face isolation.

Israel’s military leadership has moved swiftly to protect critical strategic coordination with the United States amid internal political obstruction. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has appointed Brigadier General Omer Tishler, the incoming Air Force commander, as a temporary special envoy to Washington to ensure uninterrupted operational cooperation with the Pentagon.

According to military affairs reporter Doron Kadish, speaking on Galei Tzahal, the appointment was made after Defense Minister Israel Katz blocked the formal posting of a military attaché to Washington. Katz has declined to approve Zamir’s nominee, instead pressing for the appointment of his own military secretary, Brigadier General Guy Markizano.

In response, the IDF leadership opted for operational continuity over political delay. Tishler’s mandate includes hands-on operational synchronization, intelligence coordination, and strengthening strategic trust with US counterparts—functions that directly reinforce Israel’s deterrence posture against Iranian proxies, Hamas, and destabilizing regional forces.

Tishler accompanied Zamir on the Chief of Staff’s official visit to Washington last Friday, participating in high-level discussions with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The move underscores Israel’s resolve to act decisively in safeguarding national security interests, regardless of internal bureaucratic resistance or external pressure from hostile actors exploiting regional instability.
