Hezbollah Forces Out Senior Security Chief After Israeli Pressure Shatters Terror Group’s Internal Stability

Resignation exposes Hezbollah weakness as Israel’s decisive actions unravel terror networks threatening regional security.

The Hezbollah terrorist organization has formally accepted the resignation of senior security official Wafiq Safa, marking the first time an operative of his rank has stepped down, according to sources familiar with the group’s internal deliberations.

Safa headed Hezbollah’s powerful liaison and coordination unit, which operates directly with Lebanese security agencies. He survived an Israeli attempt to eliminate him in October 2024—an episode widely viewed as a turning point in Hezbollah’s internal power structure.

Sources indicated the resignation is part of a broader internal restructuring following Hezbollah’s significant losses in last year’s conflict with Israel. Hussein Abdullah has reportedly been appointed as Safa’s replacement.

Although a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon ended active hostilities in 2024, Hezbollah has repeatedly violated its terms. Under the agreement, the terror group was required to begin disarming south of the Litani River—an obligation it has openly defied.

Lebanese authorities tasked the Lebanese Armed Forces with establishing a state monopoly on weapons, but Hezbollah has condemned the effort and vowed to retain its arsenal. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem recently warned that disarmament would mean “the end of Lebanon,” underscoring the group’s continued challenge to Lebanese sovereignty.

The resignation is widely interpreted as another sign that sustained Israeli pressure is weakening Hezbollah’s leadership and operational confidence.
