Checkpoint blast and police station assault leave security forces and civilians dead, including child.
At least 17 people were killed after two bomb attacks and a gun battle targeted security forces in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said.
The violence unfolded in multiple locations, striking both a checkpoint and a police station. According to a military statement, militants rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a wall near a checkpoint in Bajaur district, killing 11 security personnel and a young girl.
In a separate incident, a bomb attack and subsequent exchange of gunfire left additional security personnel and civilians dead, bringing the total reported fatalities to at least 14 members of the security forces and three civilians.
Bajaur district, located near the Afghan border, has long experienced militant activity due to its rugged terrain and strategic location.
Officials confirmed that emergency services were dispatched immediately, and the wounded were transported to nearby medical facilities. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those killed.
Security Situation Remains Fragile
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen recurring attacks against security installations in recent months, reflecting ongoing instability in the region.
Investigations are underway to determine the perpetrators and assess whether the attacks were coordinated as part of a broader campaign.
Authorities have heightened security measures across the province as concerns grow over further violence.
