Pezeshkian offers inspections while Trump administration maintains firm red lines.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that Tehran is willing to accept verification measures to prove it is not seeking nuclear weapons.
“We are absolutely not seeking nuclear weapons,” Pezeshkian stated in remarks published by the Iranian presidency. “If anyone wants to verify this, we are open to such verification to take place.”
His comments came hours after Iranian and US negotiators concluded another round of indirect talks in Geneva, reportedly agreeing on guiding principles for continued discussions.
Civilian Use and IAEA Oversight
Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is intended for civilian purposes, including healthcare, industry, and agriculture. He said Tehran cannot accept restrictions that deny access to nuclear science for peaceful applications.
He also stated that Iran has no concerns about inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency and is prepared for oversight mechanisms.
On the US side, JD Vance told Fox News that the talks “went well,” but acknowledged that Iran has not accepted all of President Donald Trump’s red lines.
Trump reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains the core objective. He also referenced prior US military action against Iranian nuclear infrastructure, stating he hopes Iran will approach negotiations more reasonably this time.
Supreme Leader’s Messaging
Even as talks progressed, Ali Khamenei posted a series of statements in English on social media, warning against coercion and reiterating Iran’s sovereign rights.
Diplomatic Balancing Act
The negotiations follow earlier discussions held in Oman and come amid heightened regional military readiness.
While both sides signal willingness to continue talks, fundamental differences remain — particularly over uranium enrichment levels and the scope of inspections.
The coming rounds in Geneva will determine whether the newly agreed “guiding principles” evolve into a formal agreement or whether tensions escalate once again.
