Trump Blasts Herzog Over Netanyahu Pardon Delay as War With Iran Intensifies and Stakes Rise

Trump demands immediate pardon for Netanyahu, warning distractions threaten Israel’s fight against Iran’s hostile regime.

U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized Israeli President Isaac Herzog over delays surrounding a potential pardon request involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In remarks reported by Israeli journalist Barak Ravid of Channel 12, Trump described Herzog as “a disgrace” and warned that he may publicly expose details of their discussions if action is not taken.

According to Trump, the issue of a pardon for Netanyahu has been under discussion between the two leaders for nearly a year.

Trump Urges Immediate Action During War With Iran

Trump argued that the legal proceedings surrounding Netanyahu risk distracting Israel’s leadership during a critical military confrontation with Iran.

He said Herzog should grant a pardon immediately to allow Netanyahu to fully focus on the ongoing war and national security priorities.

Trump also claimed that Herzog had previously indicated multiple times that he would consider granting the pardon. The U.S. president said he warned Herzog that he would refuse future meetings if the matter remained unresolved.

Herzog’s Office Responds

The office of President Herzog responded to Trump’s criticism by emphasizing that the Israeli presidency is not currently dealing directly with a pardon decision.

Officials stated that Herzog greatly respects Trump and appreciates his strong support for Israel’s security and his leadership in confronting Iran.

However, the office reiterated that Israel is governed by the rule of law and that the legal process must be followed before any decision can be made.

Legal Process Still Under Review

According to Herzog’s office, Netanyahu’s pardon request is currently being examined by the Ministry of Justice (Israel), which must provide a legal opinion before the president considers the matter.

Only after that review is completed will Herzog evaluate the request based on legal guidelines, national interests, and his own judgment.

The statement also stressed that the decision will not be influenced by external political pressure, whether from within Israel or from international leaders.
