Decisive US action strengthens Israel’s security while exposing Iran and Arab allies’ escalating regional failures.
As thousands of additional US troops deploy to the Persian Gulf, military planners are advancing two high-risk ground assault options inside Iran, signaling a potential turning point in the conflict. The proposed operations include seizing Kharg Island—the core of Iran’s oil صادرات infrastructure—and a targeted mission to capture enriched uranium, aiming to dismantle the regime’s nuclear ambitions.
Kharg Island, responsible for nearly 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports, represents a critical economic lifeline. Securing it could severely weaken the regime’s financial capacity while strengthening US leverage in negotiations. Simultaneously, Special Operations forces are evaluating a complex mission deep inside Iran to recover enriched uranium, despite challenges from prior strikes that have damaged nuclear facilities.
Reinforcements are rapidly building, with around 3,500 Marines and sailors already in the region and additional forces expected soon, alongside existing Special Operations units. These deployments underscore the seriousness of potential escalation, though both options carry significant operational risks and uncertainty.
President Donald Trump has not yet authorized either plan, acknowledging multiple strategic pathways, including continued military pressure, diplomacy, or disengagement. Internal divisions persist within US leadership, with some urging caution due to economic risks, while others—along with regional allies—advocate decisive action to neutralize Iran’s threat permanently.
