Finance Minister Ze’ev Elkin warns against partial sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, urging Israel to apply full sovereignty, expand strategic construction, and deliver a powerful Zionist response to international pressure.
At the Arutz Sheva–Samaria Council Conference, Finance Minister Ze’ev Elkin delivered a sharp warning: applying sovereignty only to Israel’s main settlement blocs would be a grave error that signals retreat. “This would convey weakness and create a feeling that we are giving up the rest of the area. This must not happen,” Elkin declared, stressing that Israel must seize the historic moment to establish irreversible facts on the ground.
Elkin, who pioneered sovereignty bills more than a decade ago when the idea was still dismissed as fantasy, noted how the once-radical vision has now become a mainstream consensus on the Right. “Exactly as I hoped, the idea has matured into common knowledge. Now is the time to translate consensus into practical action.”
He pointed to international moves to impose a Palestinian state, warning that Israel must respond with decisive measures:
- Massive construction in Judea and Samaria at strategic points such as E1, Ma’ale Adumim, and Ariel.
- Formal application of sovereignty across the region.
- Proactive policy, rather than waiting for terrorist attacks or UN dictates.
“The time has come for sovereignty,” Elkin declared.
Turning to his role in national reconstruction following the war, Elkin highlighted Israel’s resilience. In the south, 95% of residents have returned, with 2,000 more students enrolled than before the war, and plans to double the Tekuma region’s population to 120,000. In the north, Israel will add 100,000 new residents to the border region. “This is the true Zionist answer,” Elkin said. “To come back bigger and stronger.”
Elkin’s message was clear: sovereignty is not only about borders — it is about Israel’s strength, security, and destiny. Anything less than full sovereignty would be a betrayal of the Zionist mission.
