Moshe’s final Song warns Israel that sovereignty depends on loyalty to G-d—and foretells today’s struggle against a “non-nation” called Palestine.
“Listen, O Heavens, and I will speak; and let the Earth hear the words of my mouth” (Deut. 32:1).
Parashat Ha’azinu is Moshe’s swan song, his parting testimony to Israel. It proclaims that:
- History is not random chance.
- Israel’s entry into its Land is part of G-d’s eternal plan.
- Jewish sovereignty is woven into the fabric of Creation itself.
- Our survival and independence do not rest on military might or politics, but on our connection to Torah and mitzvot.
The seventy lines of Moshe’s Song span two columns in every Torah scroll—hinting at the seventy nations of the world. Israel is charged with being a living testimony of G-d’s reality before all humanity.
📜 The Hidden Code of the Columns
The Masorah teaches that six Torah columns begin with specific letters, spelling the phrase בְּיָהּ שְׁמוֹ (“With Y-AH, His Name” – Psalms 68:5). Among them is the column of Ha’azinu, beginning with וְאָעִידָה (“and I will testify”). Each such column testifies to G-d’s mastery: Creation, Yehudah’s kingship, the Splitting of the Sea, Balaam’s blessing, and Moshe’s prophetic Song.
Ha’azinu proclaims that Israel’s destiny is G-d’s orchestration of history—from Egypt to the Maccabees to the miraculous victories of 1948, 1967, and 1973.
⚔️ The “Non-Nation”
Moshe foresaw Israel’s sins of idolatry and predicted the punishment:
“They provoked My jealousy with a non-god… I will provoke them with a non-nation, a vile nation” (Deut. 32:21).
Rashi explains: “a nation with no name.”
Could there be a more precise description of today’s so-called Palestinians—a fabricated “people,” with no ancient homeland, no language of their own, their very name a Roman colonial invention from “Philistines,” meaning foreign invaders? A “non-nation” indeed.
✡️ From Ha’azinu to Our Days
Ha’azinu is always read near Yom Kippur—because it is Israel’s mirror: our past, our sins, our redemption, and our future return to G-d. The message is clear:
- When we chase false gods and foreign ideologies, G-d punishes us with false nations.
- When we return to Him, the non-nation fades, and the seventy nations of the world rejoice in our sovereignty.
“Rejoice, O nations, with His people… for He will avenge the blood of His servants… and His people will atone for His Land” (Deut. 32:43).
This is Moshe’s final prophecy: a future where the world not only accepts, but celebrates Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel.
🌍 Why It Matters Today
A century ago, a sovereign Jewish state seemed impossible. Today, it is reality. Likewise, the disappearance of our enemies may feel far-fetched—but history is moving faster than ever, and prophecy unfolds before our eyes.
Jewish sovereignty is not political fortune—it is Divine decree.
And our continued survival depends not on alliances, armies, or economics, but on the eternal covenant of G-d, His Torah, and His mitzvot.
