The sad end of Daniel the reservist

Veteran of Gaza and Lebanon Takes Own Life After Losing Friends in Supernova Massacre

Daniel Edri, Survivor and Reservist, Takes Own Life After Supernova Trauma and Frontline Service

Daniel Edri, 24, who lost two childhood friends in the Supernova Festival massacre and later served in reserve duty in Gaza and Lebanon, died by suicide this weekend. He was found in a burnt car in Birya Forest, near Safed, where he had recently moved.

Raised in a religious home in Safed, Daniel was described by his sister Eden as a gifted musician and a sensitive soul who tried to carry on despite the immense emotional weight he bore. “He lost his soul in military service and lost his life because of it,” his mother Sigal said tearfully. “If they couldn’t save him, they must not dishonor him in death.” She called for Daniel to be buried in a military cemetery, arguing that the emotional scars he carried were combat wounds.

MK Michal Woldiger (Religious Zionism) joined the call, saying, “A soldier whose soul was wounded must be recognized. This absurdity must stop.”

The IDF expressed condolences to the family but stated that, under current law, Daniel does not qualify as a fallen soldier since he was not in active reserve duty at the time of his death.

Daniel is survived by his mother Sigal, sister Eden (30), and brothers Noam (25) and Yehoyada (22).

His story has reignited national debate around how Israel recognizes and supports soldiers suffering from invisible wounds of war.
