Four young Israeli soldiers — Lt. Matan Abramovitz, St.-Sgts. Uri Lamed and Gadi Cotal, and Sgt. Amit Arye Regev — were killed in Gaza after Hamas terrorists attacked an army shelter with explosives.
The Israel Defense Forces on Monday night released the names of four fallen soldiers from the Armored Corps 401st Brigade’s 52nd Battalion, who were killed during heavy fighting in northern Gaza City.
The fallen heroes are:
- Staff Sergeant Uri Lamed, 20, from Tel Mond
- Staff Sergeant Gadi Cotal, 20, from Afikim
- Sergeant Amit Arye Regev, 19, from Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut
- Lieutenant Matan Abramovitz, 21, from Ganei Tikva (identified on Tuesday)
According to the IDF, the incident unfolded when Hamas terrorists launched a guerrilla-style attack on an army shelter. The attackers hurled an explosive device into a tank parked outside the shelter, igniting it.
The blast killed the tank crew members and wounded another soldier, who was evacuated for treatment.
The deaths mark yet another reminder of the ferocity of Hamas’s urban warfare tactics and the heavy price borne by Israel’s young soldiers in the fight to dismantle the terror group.
The IDF expressed its condolences to the bereaved families and pledged to continue operating with determination to defeat Hamas.
