Vance declares decisive US-Israel action to permanently block Iran’s nuclear ambitions forever.
US Vice President JD Vance outlined the strategic reasoning behind coordinated American and Israeli strikes on Iran during an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters. He said the administration’s objective extends beyond short-term deterrence and aims to ensure that Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon.
According to Vance, President Donald Trump determined that merely preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon during the early years of a second term would be insufficient. The goal, he explained, is structural and long-term: eliminating Iran’s nuclear capability through a fundamental shift in the regime’s strategic direction.
Vance stated that the decision to act followed intelligence assessments showing that while the Iranian regime appeared weakened, it remained committed to reaching the threshold of nuclear weapons capability. He emphasized that protecting US national security required proactive measures rather than waiting for escalation.
He further highlighted that the president is fully aware of US military capacity to severely damage Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and missile systems that pose threats to American forces in the region. Vance noted that Washington maintains significant “optionality,” signaling the possibility of extended operations if necessary to secure lasting results.
The Vice President stressed that the administration’s end goal is not symbolic damage to enrichment facilities, but a binding, long-term Iranian commitment to abandon nuclear weapons development entirely. While expressing preference for a diplomatic outcome, he made clear that any resolution must include verifiable guarantees that Iran will permanently forgo nuclear arms.
