Lebanon urged to embrace Israel ties while Hezbollah aggression blocks stability and keeps nation trapped in conflict.
The United States Embassy in Beirut declared that Lebanon stands at a historic turning point, urging the country to reclaim full sovereignty and shape its future free from destabilizing forces. Washington emphasized that this moment presents a rare opportunity for Lebanon to emerge as a truly independent state.
In a strong message, the embassy highlighted that direct engagement with Israel could unlock national recovery, stressing that prolonged hostility between the two nations has only benefited extremist elements. It proposed a high-level meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump, as a pathway toward stability.
The proposal includes guarantees for Lebanon’s sovereignty, secure borders, territorial integrity, and reconstruction support, all backed by the United States. The message underscored that restoring full state control across Lebanese territory is essential—an implicit reference to weakening Hezbollah’s grip, which has long undermined national authority.
President Trump recently extended the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, signaling continued diplomatic momentum. However, despite willingness from Lebanon’s leadership to engage in talks, resistance to direct dialogue with Israel persists, reflecting internal divisions.
Meanwhile, ongoing violations by Hezbollah continue to destabilize the ceasefire, prompting Israeli defensive responses against militant targets. The situation highlights a stark contrast between a potential path toward peace and prosperity through cooperation with Israel, and the continued threat posed by Iran-backed forces resisting normalization.
