Last chance to vote: Netanyahu calls to vote for ZOA in World Zionist Congress elections
Voting in the World Zionist Congress elections ends this coming Sunday, May 4th. As left-wing groups ramp up efforts to gain control of key national institutions in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls on Jews around the world to unite and vote for the ZOA-15 slate: “They’ve been courageously defending the Jewish people and the State of Israel, without hesitation and without apology.”
The World Zionist Congress elections are entering the final stretch. On Sunday, May 4th, voting for Israel’s national institutions will come to a close. Over the past year, left-wing groups such as the Reform Movement, Brothers in Arms, Meretz, and a Yesh Atid-affiliated party, have poured tens of millions of shekels into a campaign aimed at taking control of Israel’s national institutions.
One of the institutions at stake is the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), where right-wing and left-wing factions have clashed over policies—especially regarding funding for projects in Israeli communities beyond the Green Line. One recent example: at the start of the war, left-wing groups attempted to prevent the Jewish National Fund from funding emergency defense teams in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. That attempt was ultimately thwarted thanks to the persistence of current KKL-JNF chair and Likud representative, Ifat Ovadia-Luski.

While left-wing groups have organized protests abroad against the Israeli government and its Prime Minister, called upon the Biden administration to impose sanctions on Israeli citizens, and some have even encouraged demonstrations against the war itself, the ZOA-15 coalition—led by World Likud and represented by Yaakov Hagoel, the current head of the World Zionist Organization—has been fighting these efforts.
ZOA-15 is actively working in the United States to rally support for the State of Israel, its government, the IDF’s operations, and support for settlements in Judea and Samaria. Recently, left-wing representatives opposed the Israeli government’s request for help from the World Zionist Organization in providing funding for the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which provides aid and support for released hostages and their families, for political reasons. Their opposition failed due to strong pushback from the right-wing coalition.
In the current elections, many right-wing lists are running, creating a risk of spreading thin the national camp and potentially leading to a left-wing victory. The largest right-wing party, with the best shot at defeating the left, is ZOA-15. It has won in previous elections, and its representatives hold senior positions in Israel’s national institutions, foremost among them Yaakov Hagoel, the current Chairman of the World Zionist Organization.

In a last-minute push, Prime Minister Netanyahu released a video calling on Jews around the world to unite and vote for ZOA-15: “I call on you to vote for the ZOA oalition. I say so because I’ve been following the ZOA for years. They’ve been courageously defending the Jewish people and the State of Israel, without hesitation and without apology. They’ve stood up proudly for the rights of our people and our country. So I ask you – vote for the ZOA!”
Yaakov Hagoel, Chair of the World Zionist Organization and a senior leader of the ZOA-15 coalition, said: “These elections, held against the backdrop of the war, are critical for the State of Israel and the Jewish people. They’ll decide who will set the course and the path forward—whether it’s the national path we lead through the World Likud ZOA-15 coalition, or the progressive left’s agenda.”Voting in the World Zionist Congress elections ends this coming Sunday, May 4th.
