Netanyahu Defends Hostage Negotiation Strategy, Accuses Media of Echoing Hamas Propaganda
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back against growing criticism over the stalled hostage deal negotiations in Gaza, emphasizing that Israel has accepted the latest proposals, while Hamas continues to obstruct progress.
In a televised statement, Netanyahu rebuked reports suggesting the Israeli government is blocking a potential agreement:
“These media outlets always echo Hamas propaganda, and they’re always wrong. We accepted the Witkoff outline. We accepted the mediators’ version. Hamas rejected it.”
Netanyahu insisted that Hamas’s goal is to remain entrenched in Gaza, rearm, and launch future attacks:
“They want us to withdraw so they can repeat the rapes, murders, and kidnappings. I will not allow that. I am committed to bringing the hostages home and eliminating Hamas.”
Addressing public opinion polls showing broad support for a deal, Netanyahu claimed the numbers are misleading:
“Of course, people support a deal. So do I. But the polls never ask, ‘Do you want a deal that leaves Hamas in power?’ Ask that, and the results flip. The polls are manipulated.”
Reiterating his dual objectives, Netanyahu vowed:
“I will not give up on either mission—bringing the hostages home and destroying Hamas to ensure Gaza can never again threaten Israel.”
The remarks come amid international pressure and domestic debate over balancing military objectives with the urgent need to secure the release of the remaining 20 living and 30 deceased hostages held in Gaza.
