In a rare interfaith show of unity, Chief Rabbi Kalman Ber and Druze leader Sheikh Qassem Bader called for urgent action to protect the embattled Druze community in Syria.
Jerusalem – July 21, 2025 — In a powerful gesture of interfaith solidarity, Chief Rabbi of Israel Kalman Ber met today with Sheikh Qassem Bader, a prominent leader of the Druze community and President of the World Council for Peace, to discuss the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Syria’s Druze regions.
The meeting, facilitated by Amichai Levi of the World Council for Peace, centered on the escalating threats and violence faced by the Druze population in southern Syria, where recent clashes have left hundreds dead and thousands in fear of renewed massacres.
Sheikh Bader conveyed the deep anguish and fear consuming the Druze community amid the mounting atrocities. He thanked Rabbi Ber for his public and unwavering call on Israel and global leaders to intervene and uphold their duty to protect vulnerable minorities.
“I speak today on behalf of a people grieving,” said Sheikh Bader, his voice filled with emotion. “We are grateful to the Chief Rabbi for his moral clarity and heartfelt support during our darkest hours.”
Rabbi Ber responded with a message of profound sorrow and unwavering solidarity, emphasizing that the Jewish people know the pain of persecution and have a moral obligation to stand beside the Druze.
“This is not just a humanitarian matter—it is a test of our collective conscience,” said the Chief Rabbi. “The world must not remain silent while innocent Druze lives are threatened. Israel and the international community must act now.”
The meeting marks a poignant moment of cross-cultural alliance, with both religious leaders calling for urgent global action, renewed humanitarian aid, and diplomatic pressure to prevent further atrocities in the region.
