Iran Arrests 8 Suspected Mossad Operatives Accused of Plotting Attacks on IRGC Commanders

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced the arrest of eight people accused of spying for Israel’s Mossad and plotting attacks on senior commanders during June’s Israeli airstrikes.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Saturday that it had arrested eight individuals accused of working with Israel’s Mossad spy agency to transmit sensitive military coordinates and intelligence on senior Iranian commanders.

According to Iranian state media, the arrests are tied to Israel’s June air campaign, which targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and killed several top military officials and civilians.

The IRGC claimed the suspects had undergone specialized Mossad training via online platforms and were captured in northeastern Iran before carrying out their plans. Security forces reportedly seized materials intended for launchers, bombs, and booby traps.

Iran has long accused Israel of waging a covert sabotage and assassination campaign inside its borders. In recent years, Tehran has carried out a string of executions of alleged Mossad operatives:

  • In 2024, Iran executed four men it said trained in Africa, met with Mossad chief David Barnea, and entered Iran via Iraqi Kurdistan.
  • In December 2023, authorities announced the execution of another man accused of being a Mossad spy in southeastern Iran.
  • Earlier this month, Iran hanged nuclear scientist Rouzbeh Vadi, who was convicted of passing information to Israel about another scientist killed in Israeli airstrikes.
  • Just days later, officials claimed to have detained 20 more suspected Mossad assets.

The IRGC warned that those convicted of espionage would face “severe punishment”, reiterating Tehran’s position that Israel is running a broad clandestine network inside Iran.

Israel has not publicly commented on the latest arrests, but its intelligence services have a long history of covert operations targeting Iran’s nuclear program and military leadership.
