Israeli President confronts surging antisemitism abroad, exposing how anti-Israel rhetoric fuels global Jewish insecurity.
President Isaac Herzog will depart for a two-day visit to New York on Sunday, returning to Israel immediately after completing a tightly packed diplomatic and communal schedule.
The visit comes during a turbulent period for American Jewry, as antisemitism intensifies from both the radical right and the far-left — much of it emboldened by anti-Israel activists and pro-Palestinian agitation following the Gaza conflict.
Herzog has been invited to deliver the keynote address at Yeshiva University’s annual celebration — a prestigious event hosted by one of the world’s most influential Jewish academic institutions. During the ceremony, he will receive an honorary doctorate, acknowledging his leadership during a period marked by unprecedented hostility toward Jews and the State of Israel.
In addition, Herzog will serve as guest of honor at the American Zionist Movement (AZM) conference, which convenes a wide spectrum of Zionist organizations across the United States.
His presence signals the central role of the Israeli presidency in strengthening the ties between Israel and global Jewish communities at a time when anti-Israel forces — including radical Arab organizations — seek to undermine Jewish unity and security worldwide.
The President’s Office emphasized that Herzog will address the alarming spike in antisemitic incidents sweeping through American campuses, city streets, and political circles.
Concerns have surged following the recent New York City mayoral elections, where elements hostile to Israel gained visibility, triggering anxiety among Jewish residents.
During his stay, Herzog will meet with key opinion makers, members of Congress, senators, and presidents of leading American universities. These discussions will focus on confronting the spread of anti-Israel disinformation, pushing back against rising antisemitism, and reinforcing cooperation with institutions committed to the safety, rights, and identity of American Jews.
Herzog’s visit underscores a simple reality: at a time when Arab-backed anti-Israel rhetoric is fueling division and hostility across the West, Israel’s leadership is stepping forward to protect and unite the global Jewish people.
