US President Donald Trump announces that Israel and Iran have agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire, starting at 7:00 a.m. Israel time. Israel yet to confirm the ceasefire, while an Iranian source tells Reuters Iran agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Qatar.
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday night that Israel and Iran have agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire, starting at 7:00 a.m. Israel time on Tuesday morning.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that Iran will be the first to stop hostilities, beginning in six hours from, and Israel will do the same six hours later.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote.
He added, “Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.'”
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!” wrote the President.
Israel has yet to officially comment on Trump’s announcement. A Cabinet meeting concluded shortly before 2:00 a.m., at which time Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the ministers not to comment on the most recent developments. An Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Iran has agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Qatar.
According to the Reuters report, Trump spoke to Netanyahu in the afternoon and the two agreed on the ceasefire.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote in a post on X, “President Trump has accomplished what no other president in history could ever imagine — the obliteration of the Iranian Regime’s nuclear program, and an unprecedented ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Truly remarkable!”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi would not confirm the reports of a ceasefire, writing in a post on X, “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around.”
“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards,” he added.
“The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later,” concluded Araghchi.
In a subsequent post, however, Araghchi indicated that a ceasefire had indeed been agreed upon.
“The military operations of our powerful Armed Forces to punish Israel for its aggression continued until the very last minute, at 4am. Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute,” he wrote.
Just before Trump published his post, there were reports of explosions in Tehran. This followed a warning by the IDF’s Persian-language spokesperson for residents of Tehran to evacuate from District 7.
The warning read: “The Israeli military will operate in this area, as it has across Iran in recent days, to strike the military infrastructure of the Iranian regime.”
It further stated: “Dear civilians, for your safety and well-being, we request that you immediately evacuate the area marked on the map and avoid approaching it in the coming hours. Your presence in this area endangers your lives.”
Later, the IDF’s Persian-language spokesperson published an evacuation warning for two more districts in Tehran.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., sirens were sounded in the southern Golan Heights warning of an infiltration of UAV. About ten minutes later, the Home Front Command said that the incident had concluded.
The IDF said, “Following the sirens that sounded regarding a hostile aircraft infiltration between 1:34 a.m. and 1:35 a.m. in the southern Golan Heights, a UAV launched from Iran toward Israel was intercepted by the IAF.”
“Additionally, a short while ago, three other UAVs launched from Iran toward Israel were intercepted by the IAF before crossing into Israeli territory.”
