Israel Slams UNRWA: ‘Hamas Terrorists Still on the Payroll’

Top Israeli diplomat warns that UNRWA continues to employ Hamas operatives, calling on world governments to cut funding to the agency accused of aiding terrorism.

Israel is once again accusing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) of harboring Hamas terrorists within its ranks — and this time, it claims to have fresh proof.

On Monday night, Amir Weissbrod, Deputy Director-General for International Organizations at Israel’s Foreign Ministry, posted on X that employee rosters provided to Israel just last week reveal multiple active Hamas operatives still working for UNRWA.

“Some of these names were already flagged in an official letter sent in July 2024 to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and UN Secretary-General António Guterres — yet no action has been taken,” Weissbrod said.

He urged foreign governments to halt all financial support to the UN agency:

“Any responsible government that does not want its taxpayers’ money going to Hamas must stop supporting this organization.”

This revelation reignites tensions that have been building for months. Back in April, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar unleashed a blistering attack on both the UN and UNRWA as The Hague’s International Court of Justice examined the agency’s status.

Calling the proceedings a “political circus,” Sa’ar declared that Israel would boycott them entirely:

“The UN and UNRWA are not neutral actors. They have been complicit in terrorism and antisemitic activity. It is not Israel that should be on trial — it is the UN and UNRWA.”

Sa’ar accused UNRWA staff of direct involvement in the October 7 Hamas massacre, alleging that Secretary-General Guterres tried to cover up the scandal.

“The UN has betrayed its founding principles. Instead of defending global order, it has become a corrupt body that enables terrorism while persecuting Israel,” Sa’ar charged.

With Israel now doubling down on its claims, the diplomatic fallout could deepen — especially if Western nations heed the call to cut UNRWA’s funding.
