Notorious Anti-Israel Agitator Mahmoud Khalil Rallies Thousands in NYC, Praises Slain Hamas Terrorist

Mahmoud Khalil, the radical activist who once defended the October 7 Hamas massacre, resurfaced in New York City to glorify a slain Hamas terrorist at a mass anti-Israel protest, drawing thousands into the streets of Manhattan.

New York City once again became the stage for pro-Hamas agitation as Mahmoud Khalil, 30, a controversial anti-Israel activist with a history of defending terrorism, led chants and speeches outside the New York Public Library on Saturday.

Khalil, who has previously been detained by U.S. immigration authorities for posing a national security threat, quoted the final words of Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera correspondent exposed as a Hamas terrorist commander eliminated by an Israeli missile strike last week. Despite Israel’s evidence of al-Sharif’s terror ties, Khalil hailed him as a martyr and urged the crowd: “The time is now, the bridges towards liberation start with us.”

The protest drew an estimated 2,000 demonstrators, with banners declaring “Stop starving Gaza,” “Stop killing journalists,” and “Defeat imperialist/Zionist genocidal war-makers.” At least one attendee was spotted wearing the green Hamas headband of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

From the library steps, protesters marched to Columbus Circle, chanting familiar extremist slogans, including “From the river to the sea.”

Khalil — a former Columbia University student turned radical organizer — sparked outrage earlier this year for his unapologetic defense of Hamas’ October 7 massacre, calling it a “desperate attempt” to “break the cycle,” even while acknowledging that “targeting civilians is wrong.”

Released from ICE custody in June after a judge ordered his release, Khalil has wasted no time rejoining the protest circuit, doubling down on his open hostility toward Israel while openly glorifying terrorists.
