Trump Promises Ukraine “Security Guarantees” in Future Peace Deal – But Troop Role Unclear

In a high-profile meeting with President Zelenskyy, Donald Trump vowed that Ukraine will receive “security guarantees” under a peace accord, but stopped short of confirming whether U.S. troops would be part of the pledge.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Ukraine will be granted “security guarantees” as part of any eventual peace agreement, following his talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Speaking after their meeting, Trump underlined America’s commitment to Kyiv’s defense but deliberately avoided specifying whether the guarantees would include the deployment of U.S. troops.

“Ukraine will receive security guarantees,” Trump stated, leaving open the scope of Washington’s involvement.

The assurance comes as Kyiv continues to seek stronger international backing amid the grinding war with Russia. For Zelenskyy, who has repeatedly pressed for NATO membership and a binding Western commitment, Trump’s words mark a diplomatic step—but the ambiguity over U.S. troop involvement remains a critical question.

Analysts note that Trump has long favored conditional, deal-based guarantees over open-ended military commitments. The announcement signals support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, but it also reflects Trump’s pragmatic and transactional approach to global security pacts.
