Israel doubles down on its air power—signing a half-billion-dollar deal for two more Boeing KC-46 refueling aircraft, boosting the IAF’s long-range strike capabilities to unprecedented levels.
Israel’s Defense Ministry has taken another leap forward in strengthening the IDF’s strategic reach, with Director General Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram instructing the ministry’s US mission to finalize a new contract for two additional Boeing KC-46 refueling aircraft.
Once approved by the Defense Procurement Ministerial Committee, the deal—valued at roughly $500 million and funded through US defense aid—will expand the Israeli Air Force’s (IAF) modern refueling fleet to six state-of-the-art aircraft.
This procurement follows Israel’s earlier purchase of four KC-46 tankers and marks a significant milestone in the IDF’s long-term force buildup strategy. Each aircraft will be customized with Israeli systems to meet the IAF’s unique operational needs.
Maj. Gen. Baram emphasized the strategic edge:
“The fifth and sixth refueling aircraft will strengthen the IAF—the IDF’s long-range strategic arm—enabling it to reach distant theaters with greater force and scope.”
Boeing Israel President Maj. Gen. (Res.) Ido Nehushtan highlighted the deep partnership:
“The KC-46A tanker aircraft will provide the world’s most advanced multi-mission aerial refueling capability to the IAF.”
This deal cements Israel’s ability to project power across the Middle East and beyond, ensuring the IAF can sustain long-range missions at a scale unmatched in the region.
