Espionage Shockwave in Jerusalem: Two US Students Arrested Near Sensitive Security Facility

Israeli police arrest two US nationals studying in Jerusalem on suspicion of spying, amid a string of espionage cases tied to Iranian intelligence.

Jerusalem police on Thursday announced the arrest of two American students suspected of photographing a sensitive security installation at the city’s entrance — an incident raising new alarm bells in Israel’s ongoing battle against foreign espionage.

Authorities immediately requested that their detention be extended for five more days as investigations intensify.

The arrests come against a backdrop of recently exposed espionage cases linked to Iran. Just last month, prosecutors indicted an Israeli citizen who immigrated from Iran in 1999, accusing him of maintaining direct contact with an Iranian intelligence operative — even during the Swords of Iron war and Operation Rising Lion — with the aim of undermining Israel’s national security.

In July, another chilling case surfaced when an IDF soldier from a classified unit was charged with leaking sensitive military data, including missile interception footage and strike documentation, to Iranian handlers in exchange for money.

The latest Jerusalem arrests add to a growing pattern of espionage threats targeting Israel, highlighting Tehran’s relentless intelligence offensive.
