“Israel’s Lobby Once the Strongest in Congress — Now It’s Been Hurt”

In a candid interview, Donald Trump lamented the erosion of Israel’s influence in Washington, citing rising skepticism among young Republicans and blaming progressive voices in Congress for weakening pro-Israel support.

In an interview with the Daily Caller, US President Donald Trump acknowledged a growing generational shift inside the Republican Party toward skepticism of Israel, citing polling that shows younger conservatives increasingly unfavorable to the Jewish state.

A March Pew Research Center poll revealed that 50% of Republicans under 50 now hold an unfavorable view of Israel — a sharp jump from 35% in 2022.

Trump responded:
👉 “Yeah, I’m aware of it. Israel is amazing… Look, nobody has done more for Israel than I have.”

The former president pointed to his administration’s aggressive stance against Iran and his long record of pro-Israel actions. Yet he expressed shock at the decline of Israel’s once-unmatched lobbying clout:
👉 “Israel had the strongest lobby in Congress. Today, it doesn’t have that strong a lobby. It’s amazing.”

He attributed the shift to the influence of progressive Democrats, singling out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies in “The Squad.”
👉 “You have AOC plus three, and you have all these lunatics… They’ve changed it.”

Trump also referenced the October 7th Hamas massacre, calling it “a truly horrible day,” and criticized denial of both the attack and the Holocaust.

On Israel’s broader battle for global perception, Trump warned:
👉 “They may be winning the war, but they’re not winning the world of public relations. It is hurting them.”

The remarks reflect a rare acknowledgment from Trump of Israel’s diminished bipartisan backing in Washington — and highlight how public opinion shifts among younger Republicans may reshape US–Israel relations in the years ahead.
