Hamas claims Israel is deliberately stalling ceasefire talks, accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu of blocking peace while the group insists it remains committed to mediators’ proposals.
Senior Hamas figure Mahmoud Mardawi launched a blistering attack on Israel, declaring that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has no interest in ending the Gaza war and is deliberately obstructing every attempt to secure a ceasefire.
Mardawi alleged that Israel continues to ignore the mediators’ proposal, despite Hamas’ agreement to the plan. He accused Netanyahu of seeking to freeze negotiations, insisting the Israeli leader is “placing obstacles in the way of peace.”
Hamas, in a late-night official statement, doubled down on its position, stressing its commitment to the ceasefire framework announced on August 18 in coordination with other Palestinian factions. The group emphasized it is open to “any idea or proposal” that ensures a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, unconditional humanitarian aid, and a sweeping prisoner exchange deal.
With international mediators caught in the middle, the standoff underscores the widening gulf between Hamas’ demands and Israel’s strategic calculations—leaving Gaza’s civilians trapped in the crossfire of politics and war.
