Secretary of State Marco Rubio Heads to Israel and UK Amid Rising Global Tensions

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Israel and the United Kingdom (Sept 13–18) to tackle the Israel-Hamas conflict, hostage crisis, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and US-UK global cooperation.

The US State Department announced Friday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will embark on a high-stakes diplomatic mission to Israel and the United Kingdom from September 13–18, signaling Washington’s deep involvement in two of today’s most urgent global crises.

In Israel, Rubio will reaffirm America’s “ironclad commitment” to Israeli security, hold talks with top Israeli officials on operational priorities in the war with Hamas, and push efforts for the safe return of hostages. The Secretary will also meet directly with families of hostages, underscoring that their loved ones remain a top US priority.

The State Department stressed that discussions will center on regional stability, coordination against Hamas, and the broader Middle East security picture.

From Jerusalem, Rubio will travel to London, where he will join the President’s delegation for a second State Visit. There, he is slated to meet UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to deepen US-UK alignment on Russia’s war in Ukraine, preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, securing Hamas-held hostages, advancing a Gaza ceasefire, and countering China’s global influence.

Rubio’s trip highlights the Biden administration’s effort to simultaneously support Israel militarily, press Hamas diplomatically, and strengthen transatlantic unity in the face of global challenges.
