Australia’s Opposition Vows to Reverse Reckless Recognition of “Palestinian State”

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley pledges to overturn Australia’s recognition of a Palestinian state, affirming unwavering support for Israel against Hamas terror.

Australian Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has delivered a powerful message of solidarity with Israel, pledging that her party will reverse the Albanese government’s recognition of a so-called “Palestinian state” if elected to power.

In a phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar on Monday, Ley denounced the Labor government’s move as a dangerous break from Australia’s longstanding bipartisan consensus. She stressed that recognition must only follow a genuine, negotiated two-state solution—not unilateral gestures that embolden terrorists.

“Now is the wrong time while Hamas still holds innocent hostages and while conflict continues,” Ley declared, underscoring her party’s commitment to Israel’s security and the integrity of the peace process.

Ley also voiced concern over rising antisemitism in Australia, the humanitarian toll of the ongoing war, and called for the immediate release of hostages. She vowed that the Liberal-National Coalition will “stand firmly with Israel and oppose reckless decisions that reward terrorists.”

Foreign Minister Sa’ar welcomed her strong position, praising her clarity and commitment to reversing Canberra’s recognition if her coalition returns to power. He briefed her on Israel’s objectives in Gaza and highlighted the IDF’s efforts to ensure humanitarian aid reaches civilians despite Hamas’ obstruction.

Sa’ar also stressed Israel’s deep appreciation for the Australian people, noting the nation’s many friends of Israel. He extended a personal invitation for Ley to visit the Jewish state, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
