A shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas left three people shot and the gunman dead, prompting a massive emergency response and nationwide concern over rising attacks on law enforcement.
Dallas, Texas — A gunman opened fire early Wednesday (September 24) at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, shooting three people before dying of a self-inflicted wound, officials confirmed.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN investigators are still determining whether the victims were employees, visitors, or detainees. “It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees,” Lyons said.
The attack began around 6:40 a.m. local time when a suspect fired from a nearby structure toward the government building on North Stemmons Freeway, Dallas police reported.
🚑 Emergency response:
- Dozens of police cars and fire-rescue vehicles swarmed the area.
- A major highway near the facility was shut down, leaving normally busy lanes empty.
- Two victims were rushed to Parkland Hospital, though their conditions remain undisclosed.
- A third person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed “multiple injuries and fatalities” and said the motive remains unclear, but noted a recent rise in violent incidents targeting ICE agents.
US Vice President JD Vance condemned the attack in a post on X, writing: “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
The ICE field office sits along Interstate 35 East, near Dallas Love Field Airport, and is surrounded by hotels and businesses. Traffic cameras showed trucks and cars halted at exits as the interstate was blocked during the emergency response.
Authorities are expected to hold a full briefing later today.
