Born in the shadow of October 7th, a grassroots revolution is spreading across Israel as thousands of Jews—soldiers, students, and secular families—embrace tefillin like never before.
“Yesterday, I got a call from a young man in Be’er Sheva,” recalls Rabbi Amichai Eyal. “He told me, ‘I’ve never touched tefillin in my life—but today I feel I must start, please help me get a pair.’ He is not alone. In recent months, dozens of similar requests pour in every single week.”
What began after the horrors of the October 7th Hamas massacre has grown into a spiritual phenomenon sweeping Israel. Soldiers on the front lines begged for tzitzit and tefillin before entering battle. High school students—many from secular backgrounds—set up tefillin stands inside their schools. From the Galilee to the Negev, an unprecedented hunger for mitzvot is awakening.
Since the war began, Rabbi Amichai Eyal’s initiative Kesher Shel Tefillin has already distributed nearly 1,000 pairs of tefillin. But the demand is overwhelming. “Every day I get calls from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat, from cities, kibbutzim, and villages. People who never imagined themselves putting on tefillin are suddenly burning with desire to connect,” he explains.
And yet, for every Jew who has received tefillin, dozens more are still waiting—sometimes in tears, praying they won’t be turned away.
Why tefillin? Rabbi Amichai explains: “The sages taught us: one mitzvah leads to another. Tefillin are not just leather straps and boxes—they ignite the soul. One mitzvah sparks another, until a Jew who once felt far is suddenly keeping Shabbat, kosher, and mitzvot he never dreamed of.”
The numbers are staggering. One Jew who dons tefillin daily for 50 years fulfills over 18,000 mitzvot. Multiply that by ten Jews, a hundred, or a thousand—and the spiritual impact is beyond imagination.
This revival is endorsed by Israel’s greatest rabbis, including Rabbi Asher Weiss, Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar, Rabbi David Yosef, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, and many more.
But the need is urgent. Every donation places tefillin in the hands of Jews longing to connect—soldiers heading to war, students shaping Israel’s future, and families discovering their heritage.
