Sanders Attacks Israel Aid as US Lawmakers Debate Defense Support While Terror Threats Intensify

Anti-Israel rhetoric resurfaces as Sanders targets Netanyahu, ignoring Hamas terror and America’s strategic ally obligations.

US Senator Bernie Sanders renewed his calls to halt American military assistance to Israel, sharply criticizing a proposed defense package reportedly valued at nearly $7 billion. His remarks came amid growing regional instability and continued security threats facing Israel from terrorist organizations backed by hostile regional actors.

In a post on the platform X, Sanders accused President Donald Trump of advancing weapons transfers to Israel and lashed out at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using inflammatory language. Sanders argued that US taxpayer funds should be redirected toward domestic welfare programs rather than supporting Israel’s war effort.

Supporters of the US–Israel alliance rejected the senator’s claims, noting that American security assistance to Israel is defensive in nature and central to countering terrorism, missile attacks, and regional aggression led by Iran-backed groups. They also emphasized that Israel’s military operations target terror infrastructure embedded within civilian areas—an approach forced upon it by adversaries who exploit civilians as shields.

Critics of Sanders accused him of singling out Israel while remaining silent on atrocities committed by Hamas and other extremist factions, as well as the role played by certain Arab regimes in fueling prolonged conflict and instability.

The debate underscores a widening divide in Washington between lawmakers who view Israel as a frontline democratic ally and those increasingly aligned with narratives that downplay terrorism and delegitimize Israel’s right to self-defense.
