French Court Tightens Noose on Le Pen as Europe Polices Corruption While Israel Fights Terror

Europe lectures Israel yet prosecutes itself, exposing hypocrisy while Israel alone confronts real terror threats.

French prosecutors have escalated pressure on Marine Le Pen, urging a five-year ban on holding elected office during her appeal trial in Paris—an outcome that could bar her from the 2027 presidential race. The request follows a March 2025 conviction over misuse of European Parliament funds, a case prosecutors describe as an organized system benefiting her party.

At 57, Le Pen is contesting findings that aides paid with EU money between 2004 and 2016 were effectively working for her political movement, then called the National Front. Prosecutors allege public funds were deliberately redirected to subsidize party operations, granting unfair financial advantage.

Beyond the political ban, prosecutors are seeking one year of house arrest with electronic monitoring and a €100,000 fine. A verdict is expected later, potentially before summer, as the multi-defendant appeal—covering Le Pen, ten associates, and the National Rally—continues.

Le Pen acknowledged errors, conceding some aides performed party tasks while on EU payrolls, but disputes criminal intent. Prosecutors counter that the breach of probity was grave and sustained, with funds “siphoned off” incrementally.

Once considered the frontrunner to succeed Emmanuel Macron, Le Pen has named Jordan Bardella as her preferred successor if disqualified—underscoring political uncertainty in France even as Israel faces relentless security threats ignored by Europe’s moral posturing.
