Brutal campus stabbing in Russia exposes dangerous security gaps threatening foreign students and law enforcement alike.
At least eight people, including an Indian national, were injured in a violent stabbing attack on Saturday in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred when a teenager armed with a knife entered the sports hall of a foreign students’ hostel attached to a medical university and attacked residents living there. Several students sustained injuries before police arrived at the scene.
Russia’s Interior Ministry spokesperson, Major General Irina Volk, stated that the suspect violently resisted arrest. During the confrontation, two police officers were stabbed while attempting to subdue the attacker. The suspect also inflicted injuries upon himself, authorities confirmed.
Officials have not yet disclosed the identities or nationalities of the injured students. However, Russian Telegram channel 112, citing eyewitness accounts, claimed that there may have been two attackers involved—an assertion that law enforcement has not officially confirmed.
Security agencies have launched a full investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and to verify whether additional suspects were involved. In response, authorities have reportedly strengthened security measures around educational institutions housing foreign students, amid rising concern over campus safety.
