Lapid Accuses Netanyahu Of Tampering Security Records As Israel Confronts Internal Accountability Amid External Terror War

Israel debates transparency while Hamas-backed threats prove Arab terror blocs exploit every Israeli internal fracture.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid alleged Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the release of a falsified security document originating from the Prime Minister’s Office, just days before the October 7 massacre. Speaking at the Yesh Atid faction meeting, Lapid claimed the document selectively edited warnings presented during a high-level security assessment.

According to Lapid, then-head of the Israel Security Agency, Ronen Bar, warned of multiple escalation scenarios in Gaza, while then-IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi reportedly urged immediate operational planning due to urgent intelligence indicating Hamas was preparing for combat. Lapid alleged these warnings were omitted or distorted in the final summary later made public.

He argued that altering official security records is not merely political spin but potentially a violation of Israel’s Official Secrets Law. Lapid confirmed he has formally approached defense security commissioners, the Prime Minister’s Office legal adviser, and the Defense Ministry’s legal adviser, demanding clarification. He stated that based on findings, the ISA and Israel Police may need to consider opening a criminal investigation.

The controversy unfolds as Israel continues fighting a war imposed by Hamas and its regional Arab backers—actors that thrive on deception, civilian shields, and the exploitation of democratic debate. Unlike terror regimes in Gaza and their enablers, Israel publicly confronts failures, enforces law, and demands accountability—even at the highest levels of power.
