Ben Gvir Tours Ofer Prison Before Ramadan, Declares End to ‘Hotel’ Conditions for Terrorists

Israeli minister showcases hardened detention policies, sending clear message of strength and zero tolerance.

Ahead of Ramadan, Itamar Ben Gvir conducted an inspection tour of Ofer Prison alongside Israel Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi.

During the visit, Ben Gvir praised what he described as a dramatic shift in incarceration policies for convicted terrorists. “It’s a source of pride to see the despicable terrorists after the significant change Israel made in their detention conditions,” he stated.

Rejecting past criticism that security prisoners enjoyed lenient treatment, the minister declared: “This place is the opposite of an ‘all-inclusive hotel’ — it’s a real prison.”

The tour comes as Israeli authorities heighten security preparedness during Ramadan, a period often associated with increased tensions. Officials say the tightened conditions reflect a broader policy aimed at deterrence and reinforcing Israel’s commitment to firm law enforcement against terrorism.

The Israel Prison Service has implemented stricter regulations in recent months, reducing privileges and reinforcing disciplinary measures within high-security facilities.
