Minister’s son lightly injured fighting Hezbollah while Israeli forces expand Lebanon operation protecting northern communities.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s son was injured Friday while participating in a military operation along the Israel–Lebanon border as Israeli forces continue their campaign against the Hezbollah terrorist organization.
The Smotrich family confirmed that the injury was minor and that he is recovering well. “Thank G-d, his injury is light and he is okay,” the family said, reassuring supporters as the news spread across Israel.
Earlier this week, Smotrich publicly blessed his son, who serves in the elite Givati Brigade, before the unit departed to participate in Israel’s ground operation inside Lebanon. On Tuesday, Israel Defense Forces troops crossed the border and moved into southern Lebanese territory to establish forward offensive positions aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah threats.
Israeli forces are currently operating across several strategic areas in southern Lebanon and have taken control of multiple positions designed to create a strengthened defensive buffer protecting northern Israeli communities from cross-border attacks.
The IDF confirmed that the operations are part of Operation “Roaring Lion,” an intensified campaign aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s terror infrastructure and preventing infiltration attempts into Israeli territory.
According to the military, Israeli troops have positioned themselves at several forward points near the border as part of an expanded defense posture that pushes the line of protection deeper into hostile territory.
The IDF also stated that the campaign includes targeted strikes against Hezbollah infrastructure used to launch attacks against Israeli civilians. The military emphasized that Hezbollah deliberately escalated the conflict by attacking Israel on behalf of the Iranian regime and will bear the consequences for those actions.
Israel’s military leadership reiterated that the IDF will continue operating decisively until the threat posed by Hezbollah is removed and the security of Israeli citizens, particularly those living in the north, is fully restored.
