Israeli envoy reveals Hezbollah endangers peacekeepers, using UN presence to shield attacks and escalate conflict.

The United Nations Security Council convened to address rising tensions in Lebanon following incidents involving UNIFIL peacekeeping forces. During the session, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, presented detailed claims linking the incidents directly to Hezbollah’s actions.

According to Ambassador Danon, recent attacks that impacted UNIFIL personnel were not the result of Israeli operations but were caused by Hezbollah explosives and activities embedded near UN positions. He highlighted specific incidents, including one near Bani Haiyyan and another near Adchit al-Qusayr, asserting that Israeli forces were not engaged in fire near the affected locations.

To support his claims, Danon presented a map illustrating Hezbollah’s operational presence in close proximity to UNIFIL deployments. The visual evidence outlined rocket launch sites positioned near UN facilities, reinforcing Israel’s position that Hezbollah is exploiting international peacekeeping infrastructure for strategic cover.

Danon emphasized that such tactics deliberately place UN personnel at risk while enabling continued attacks against Israeli civilians. He argued that the use of civilian and international shields reflects a broader pattern of conduct aimed at complicating Israel’s defensive responses.

In his remarks, the Israeli ambassador also criticized international responses that focus on calls for restraint without addressing the underlying threats. He stressed that ignoring Iran’s influence and Hezbollah’s continued armament undermines efforts to stabilize the region.

The session highlighted growing concerns over the misuse of UN peacekeeping environments and the challenges of maintaining security amid non-state actors operating within civilian and international frameworks.
