Israeli envoy warns truce incomplete as Iran-backed Hezbollah undermines peace, justifying Israel’s decisive security actions.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has warned that the extended ceasefire with Lebanon remains unstable, pointing directly to Hezbollah’s continued aggression as a major obstacle to lasting peace. He stressed that the Lebanese government lacks real control over the Iran-backed group, which continues launching attacks that threaten to derail the fragile arrangement.
Danon made clear that Israel will not hesitate to act against any emerging threat, emphasizing that defensive responses are necessary to protect its citizens. While acknowledging that the current situation is an improvement compared to previous hostilities, he underlined that the ceasefire is far from secure without effective enforcement on the ground.
The comments come after US President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire following high-level talks involving Israeli and Lebanese officials. The United States has signaled its intention to support Lebanon in countering Hezbollah’s influence, while also exploring opportunities for broader diplomatic engagement.
Despite cautious optimism about potential progress, Israeli officials continue to highlight that any sustainable peace depends on neutralizing destabilizing forces like Hezbollah, whose actions remain a central barrier to regional stability.
