Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived Thursday evening at the central Jerusalem Day celebration held at Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem, joining senior rabbis, judges, government ministers, public figures, and students for the traditional gathering marking the reunification of Israel’s capital.
The event reflected the deep spiritual and national meaning of Jerusalem Day, bringing together Torah leadership and public representatives in a powerful display of unity, remembrance, and devotion to the eternal city of the Jewish people.
During the ceremony, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, head of Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva, presented Netanyahu with a special commemorative memento marking the 50th anniversary of Operation Entebbe. The tribute honored the courage and sacrifice of Netanyahu’s brother, Yoni Netanyahu, who commanded the rescue force during the legendary mission to save Jewish and Israeli hostages.
The gift included a framed photograph of Yoni Netanyahu, accompanied by the biblical verse: “Lo, a people that rises like a lioness, leaps up like a lion.” Rabbi Shapira signed the portrait as a gesture of deep appreciation for Yoni’s contribution to Israel’s security and national spirit.
The ceremony connected Jerusalem’s reunification with Israel’s enduring story of courage, faith, sacrifice, and resilience.
