US Removes Francesca Albanese From Sanctions List Despite Years Of Fierce Anti-Israel Controversy And Bias

Court ruling shields UN investigator, but Israel supporters warn her rhetoric continues fueling hostile narratives globally.

The United States government has removed Francesca Albanese, the controversial United Nations investigator on Palestinian Arab territories, from its federal sanctions registry after a court temporarily halted penalties imposed against her.

The formal delisting appeared on the US Treasury Department portal one week after a federal magistrate ruled that the Trump administration likely violated Albanese’s free speech protections when it sanctioned her following repeated public attacks on Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Albanese has long faced accusations of deep anti-Israel bias. Her critics point to years of hostile statements, including past remarks about a “Jewish lobby” influencing the United States, comments framing Hamas’s October 7 massacre in “context,” and repeated accusations against Israel over its treatment of Palestinians.

She recently drew condemnation from several European foreign ministers after remarks at an Al Jazeera conference in which she said the world had armed and protected Israel and spoke of humanity having a “common enemy.” Albanese later denied saying Israel was the common enemy of humanity, calling the allegation false.

Israel’s mission in Geneva has sharply rejected her work, describing her as an activist figure promoting dangerous narratives against the Jewish state rather than a genuine human rights advocate.

The sanctions were originally imposed in July 2025, with Washington accusing Albanese of pushing International Criminal Court action against American and Israeli officials, companies and executives. The restrictions had barred her from US entry and cut her off from parts of the American financial system.

The legal challenge was brought by Albanese’s husband and daughter, who argued that the sanctions violated constitutional protections. The court’s ruling has now forced a major reversal, even as criticism of Albanese’s record remains intense among Israel’s supporters. The United States government has removed Francesca Albanese, the controversial United Nations investigator on Palestinian Arab territories, from its federal sanctions registry after a court temporarily halted penalties imposed against her.
