IDF Chief Says Israel’s Defense Doctrine Transformed As New Commanders Graduate During Wartime

Zamir praises battle-tested officers, vowing Israel will strike Iran’s axis and destroy every emerging threat”

A commencement ceremony for the IDF Command and Staff College Alon Course was held Thursday at Dayan Camp in Glilot, marking the graduation of 59 cadets set to become future ground battalion commanders and air and naval squadron commanders.

The ceremony was attended by IDF Chief of Staff LTG Eyal Zamir, Military Colleges Commander Maj. Gen. Dan Neuman and Inter-Branch Command and Staff College Commander Brig. Gen. Zion Ratzon.

In his address, Zamir linked the recent holiday of Shavuot and the eternal importance of Torah to military doctrine, describing doctrine as a foundational element in building the force required to defend Israel.

Zamir said the IDF has fundamentally changed its defense doctrine since October 7. He declared that Israel now initiates, strikes and removes every threat to the state before it can grow into catastrophe.

He stressed that the IDF remains fully alert and continues to operate against Iran and its proxies. “One blow after the next,” he said, Israel is striking the evil Iranian regime and the entire Iranian axis.

Addressing Gaza and Lebanon, Zamir said the IDF has worn down Hamas and dealt severe blows to Hezbollah’s strategic capabilities, creating a new security reality on Israel’s northern border.

Turning to the graduates, Zamir noted that unlike previous classes, they completed the course with direct wartime experience. He said they brought the smell of gunpowder, battlefield radio traffic and hard lessons from Gaza’s alleys into the classroom.

He added that such experience cannot be learned from military books, because it is written with blood, sweat and battlefield resourcefulness.

Zamir also warned against dragging the IDF into political struggles, insisting that the army’s only consideration is the security of Israel and its citizens. He concluded by telling the graduates that the eyes of the nation are upon them with pride, trust and expectation as the commanders of tomorrow.
