White House Confirms Tentative Iran Ceasefire Deal As Trump Weighs Final Approval Carefully

Washington keeps pressure on Tehran while demanding uranium concessions, open Hormuz and nuclear guarantees”

The White House has confirmed reports that US and Iranian negotiators have reached a tentative 60-day memorandum of understanding aimed at extending the ceasefire and opening negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

According to the report, President Donald Trump has not yet given final approval. US negotiators briefed him on the proposal, but he reportedly told mediators he wanted several days to review the details before making a decision.

The proposed memorandum would represent a major diplomatic development since the outbreak of the war, though it would not resolve the central nuclear dispute immediately. Instead, it would create a 60-day window for negotiations focused first on Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile and the future of Iranian enrichment.

US officials said most terms had been finalized by Tuesday, pending senior approval from both sides. Iranian representatives later reportedly told mediators that Tehran had obtained the necessary approvals and was ready to sign, though Iran has not publicly confirmed this.

Under the proposed terms, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would remain unrestricted. Iran would be barred from imposing tolls or harassing vessels and would be required to remove all mines from the waterway within 30 days.

The US naval blockade would reportedly be lifted gradually as commercial shipping is restored.

The memorandum would also include an Iranian pledge not to pursue nuclear weapons, while Washington would agree to discuss sanctions relief, frozen Iranian funds and mechanisms for humanitarian goods.

For Israel and its allies, the decisive test remains whether Tehran’s promises become enforceable actions. Trump’s hesitation signals that Washington will not rush into a weak deal that leaves Iran with nuclear leverage or control over Hormuz.
