Toronto Officer Killed In Raid Linked To Iranian-Backed Terror Probe After US Consulate Attack

Constable Marc Pinizzotto’s death exposes Tehran-linked threat network allegedly operating across Canada and beyond.

A Toronto police officer was killed Thursday morning during a high-risk raid connected to a national security investigation involving an alleged Iranian-backed terror network operating in Canada.

Constable Marc Pinizzotto was shot and killed while serving a search warrant in Toronto’s west end. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said the raid was part of a wider city-wide operation connected to several shootings, including the March 10 attack on the United States consulate in downtown Toronto.

Canadian authorities had initially treated the consulate shooting as a domestic national security investigation handled by the RCMP. However, US prosecutors have since linked the case to a broader state-sponsored terror network allegedly directed by Tehran.

A related cross-border investigation led to the US arrest of Iraqi national Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, who prosecutors identified as a senior operative connected to Iran’s IRGC and Kataib Hizballah.

According to US allegations, Al-Saadi and his co-conspirators planned, coordinated and claimed responsibility for multiple attacks in Europe and Canada, including the Toronto consulate shooting and a separate plot targeting a Canadian synagogue.

Chief Demkiw confirmed that Thursday’s fatal raid was tied to intelligence developments from the consulate attack, though he did not directly connect the suspects in the officer’s killing to the broader Iranian state allegations.

Constable Pinizzotto’s death has intensified concern over foreign-backed terror activity on Canadian soil and the growing danger posed by Tehran-linked networks targeting Western cities, Jewish institutions and diplomatic sites.
