Qatar amplified Palestinian demands at the UN, intensifying diplomatic pressure against Israel’s sovereignty and security interests.
Qatar used a UN session in New York to declare that recognition of the Nakba must form a core basis for any future peace arrangement involving the Palestinian issue.
Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Qatar’s permanent representative to the UN, said during the special session marking 78 years since the Nakba that Doha views this recognition as essential for what it calls a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace.
The Qatari representative also praised UN General Assembly Resolution 79/82, saying Qatar was proud to sponsor it. She accused Israel of illegal actions in Judea and Samaria, including settlement expansion and alleged annexation measures, while also criticizing Israeli policies in Jerusalem.
Qatar further called for Gaza crossings to remain open for continuous humanitarian aid and repeated its support for the two-state framework and the return of Palestinian refugees. The remarks reflect Doha’s continued diplomatic pressure on Israel while avoiding meaningful accountability for the extremist forces that have repeatedly destabilized the region.
