Brave resident stops stairwell fire while Shomrim helps police investigate latest attack on Jewish community”
A frightening arson attempt shook London’s Golders Green early Tuesday morning after a suspect allegedly tried to set fire to a residential building home to young Jewish families.
Residents were jolted awake by a blaring fire alarm, only to discover flames inside the communal stairwell of their apartment block. Eyewitnesses said the suspect was seen deliberately starting the fire before fleeing when challenged by residents.
In a remarkable act of courage, one resident quickly located the source of the blaze and managed to extinguish it before it could spread through the building. No injuries were reported, preventing what could have become a devastating tragedy.
Shomrim volunteers rushed to the scene and recovered key evidence, including personal items believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspect. The community safety group is now assisting police with CCTV checks and wider security inquiries.
Although investigators have not yet confirmed a motive, the incident has intensified fear across Britain’s Jewish community, which has already faced a disturbing wave of attacks in Golders Green.
The arson attempt follows the stabbing of two Orthodox Jewish men less than a month ago, an assault on a Jewish man reportedly targeted after he was heard speaking Hebrew, and the torching of four Hatzolah emergency vehicles in March.
Authorities and Shomrim are urging anyone with eyewitness accounts, CCTV, dashcam footage, or other information to come forward immediately as the investigation continues.
