The European Parliament has imposed a sweeping ban barring Iranian diplomats and regime representatives from all its facilities, escalating pressure on Tehran over its violent suppression of nationwide protests.
Parliament President Roberta Metsola informed lawmakers that Iranian officials will be denied entry to Parliament buildings in Brussels and Strasbourg, as well as administrative offices in Luxembourg. Under the directive, Iranian passport holders will face scrutiny at entrances, with regime-linked individuals turned away immediately.
Metsola reaffirmed Europe’s backing for Iran’s protesters, stating that symbolic gestures are no longer sufficient as demonstrators and political prisoners face bullets, prisons, and executions. She warned that stronger action is being weighed as protests demanding the end of clerical rule intensify.
The move follows growing outrage over Tehran’s crackdown on demonstrators calling for the removal of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Proposals gaining momentum include formally designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization and expanding sanctions against officials responsible for repression and mass killings.
