Jerusalem warns any agreement must not rescue Hezbollah or weaken IDF control in southern Lebanon”
Israel’s defense establishment is increasingly concerned that a future agreement between the United States and Iran could restrict IDF operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to a senior Northern Command official, Hezbollah is pressuring Iran to ensure the terror group is included in any emerging agreement with Washington. The organization is reportedly pushing for a full ceasefire that would halt Israeli airstrikes and reduce military pressure on its forces.
Israeli officials fear that if Hezbollah is brought into the framework, the United States could demand that Israel stop strikes in Lebanon and possibly withdraw IDF forces from the security zone in southern Lebanon.
The concern comes despite assessments that Hezbollah has been badly weakened. The Northern Command official said the organization is still launching attacks from deep inside Lebanon, mainly using explosive drones, UAVs and rockets, but stressed that Hezbollah is fighting for its life.
For Israel, the danger is clear: a diplomatic deal with Iran must not become a lifeline for Hezbollah. Jerusalem wants to ensure that military freedom of action remains intact until the terror group’s infrastructure is dismantled and northern residents can return safely.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Iran has repaired access routes to at least 50 underground missile tunnel sites after Israeli strikes blocked them. The development highlights the wider threat from the Iranian axis and the importance of keeping pressure on Tehran and its proxies.
